With so many faux fur throws on the market, finding the right one can be tricky. We tested out this stylish, popular option from Best Home Fashion, which comes in several sizes and offers a cozy layer of comfort—plus, it’s machine-washable. We curled up with it and evaluated its texture, durability, warmth, and more. Read on for our insights.

Material and Texture: Soft and looks real

One would be hard-pressed to find a cotton, wool, or silk blanket that feels similar to real fur—so it’s not surprising that many faux fur blankets, including this one, use polyester and acrylic. Just because these materials aren’t traditionally considered high-end doesn’t mean the item feels cheap, either. The furry side of the blanket feels soft yet sturdy at the same time; while the underside, since it’s not trying to mimic fur, has a pillowy softness that’s also pleasing to the touch. We like that this blanket has two textures. If the long hairs start tickling your nose in the middle of the night, for example, you can simply flip the blanket over or fold it down. Our cat also loved this blanket—it quickly became her favorite spot to snooze. This blanket is available in several sizes from 54 x 36 inches to 58 x 84 inches; we tested one of the larger sizes (58 x 60 inches). It’s also available in several faux fur styles, including Pearl Finn Raccoon (which we tested), Frost Fox, Kitt Fox, Iced Fox, Tawny Fox, Snakeskin, Coyote, and Chinchilla.

Durability: Well-made but delicate

It’s hard to call a large, thick blanket delicate, but this one does need to be handled with care. The reason? Its acrylic, fur-like fibers can get matted and tangled easily. We found this out the hard way as our toddler dropped a wet gummy vitamin onto the faux fur side of the blanket and it was difficult (and messy) to remove. To give this blanket a long life in your home, it’s probably better to place it on your own bed or couch in an effort to keep it as clean as possible. We do like that the acrylic “hairs” themselves are nice and strong, though.

Washing: Avoid heat

Best Home Fashion recommends that you dry clean this blanket, but it’s also machine-washable. We tried out the latter, washing it in cold water on the delicate cycle and hanging it up to air dry. Our process worked just fine and didn’t change the texture of the blanket, though we did notice a bit of shedding. Whatever you do, don’t put this blanket in the dryer. The heat from the appliance is a surefire way to destroy the blanket’s faux fur.

Price: Expensive but worth it

In the size we ordered, this blanket is priced around $140, which we thought was a little expensive. We felt it was still worth it, however, as it offers luxury without harming actual animals, it’s heavy enough to keep you warm in colder months, and it looks snazzy anywhere you drape it. Also, if the price is too high for your budget, you can opt for a smaller size for less money. For example, a 58 x 36-inch blanket retails for approximately $95.

Competition: A real market for fake fur

If you have it in your budget to invest in a faux fur blanket, the Best Home Fashion Faux Fur Throw hits all the right notes. It’s soft, thick, and comfortable, and you can clean it gently without problems. The biggest issue we had with this blanket was its shedding, but that really only happens after machine-washing it.
