We tried out the Ebern Designs How Egyptian Comfort Sheet Set in hopes of adding some luxury to our bedding experience. Over several weeks, we tested their comfortability, durability, style, and price. Read on to see what we found.
Material and Texture: Durable and smooth, but not soft
The Ebern Designs Howa Egyptian Comfort Sheet Set is made of 100 percent polyester microfiber. When we first removed these sheets from the packaging, we noticed how paper-thin and cheap the material felt. The sheets also were not noticeably soft to the touch but were impeccably smooth due to their polyester makeup. After we slept on them for about a week, we found that they weren’t anything special. They’re very much a basic sheet set you can find almost anywhere and didn’t provide that expectation of luxury we were hoping for, as their name suggests. We noticed that they were pretty durable. The sheets held together very well after washing several times and maintained their smoothness. There was no tearing, fading, pilling, or fraying, which restored some of our confidence in the quality of these sheets despite our initial impression.
Thread Count: High thread count is insignificant
These sheets are a plain weave, 1500-thread count material. Thread count refers to the number of woven threads in one square inch of sheet fabric. Typically, the higher the thread count, the softer the sheets. However, the marketing experts have managed to trick consumers into believing that a higher thread count automatically translates to better and smoother the sheets. The simple truth is that when thread counts reach over 600, it typically means that extra threads have been twisted into each thread, which bumps the thread count number up. For instance, a 750-thread count is more likely to be an honest 250-thread count with 125 vertical threads and 125 horizontal threads woven together. To get the 750-thread count, manufacturer’s twist three threads together, like in braiding hair, and the triple-count thread multiplies the total times 3. This creativity with the numbers is likely how the Ebern Designs Howa Egyptian Comfort Sheet Set is 1500-thread count because they don’t feel exceptionally soft or plush, as true high thread count sheets should feel.
Washing: Wrinkle-resistant after drying
The manufacturer’s instructions recommend machine washing on a cold, gentle cycle followed by a low tumble dry to care for these sheets properly. They recommend pulling the sheets out immediately after the dryer cycle has finished, preventing wrinkling. We followed these instructions and found that the sheets held together very well, despite their thin makeup. We also found that they were wrinkle-resistant. Even after we had left the sheets in the dryer long after the dry cycle had finished, they did not wrinkle. This was one of our favorite aspects of these sheets.
Pattern Options: One stylish pattern available
This sheet set has no solid color options and only one pattern variety, a gray and white pin dot pattern. Though there is just one pattern available for this set, it’s absolutely adorable. It matched our room perfectly since gray is neutral, and we just loved the pin dot pattern. It has an overall sleek and stylish look to it that can match a variety of bedspreads.
Helpful Features: Hypoallergenic and deep fitted sheet
One of this sheet set’s nicer qualities is that it is hypoallergenic, meaning that these sheets will likely not cause an allergic reaction for most people due to the fabrication and substances used in the making of this product. Additionally, the fitted sheet is extra deep, fitting mattresses up to 14 inches deep. The pillowcases are also made with an envelope design to hide the pillow from view and keep the pillow in place. This was a nice extra feature we liked, as our smaller pillows didn’t slip out of the case as they often do with a normal pillowcase.
Price: Inexpensive
The Ebern Designs Howa Egyptian Comfort Sheet Set is inexpensive, retailing around $40 for the four-piece twin set. The set includes one fitted sheet, one flat sheet, and two pillowcases. It’s undoubtedly one of the more budget-friendly options out there. However, you get what you pay for, which is essentially a basic polyester sheet set.

The Wamsutta Dream Zone 725-Thread-Count Sheet Set is another high thread count sheet set available. The pieces are sold separately and cost significantly more than the Ebern Designs Howa Egyptian Comfort Sheet Set. For one twin fitted sheet, one twin flat sheet, and two pillowcases, the total comes out to be about $120. However, the quality makes it well worth the price. The Wamsutta Dream Zone sheets are made with pima cotton, which is a high-quality, long-staple cotton. Similar to Egyptian cotton, they are extremely soft and comfy. The sheets also have a sateen weave, contributing to their silkiness and soft luster. The Wamsutta Dream Zone sheets also have a denser feel to them, making them a little heavier. Overall, these sheets surpass the Ebern Designs Howa Sheet Set in many ways. You’re definitely paying extra money for the luxury experience you’d expect from true high thread count sheets. The Ebern Designs Howa Sheet Set’s describes its sheets as being soft like Egyptian cotton and having a 1500-thread count. If that was the case, then these sheets would have a soft, plush texture, but instead, they lack comfort. If you need basic sheets for a guest room, these sheets will certainly do the job, but do not expect luxury.
