Intuitive design is a type of design that focuses on the ‘flow’—what makes sense for this space and the person/people within it? How can the design capture the essence of their lives? What feels comfortable and normal for them? Answering these questions can help you to intuitively design your home. And beyond the obvious, there are also other elements to consider—specifically astrology and how it can lend to authentic design, too. Whether you’re an astrology fan or not, there’s quite a bit of truth to how your zodiac sign shapes your perspective of ‘home’ and how you want it to feel. To get the inside scoop, we consulted with Crystal B., astrologist, author of Feed Your Moon, and owner of Crystal B. Astrology to talk about how you can intuitively design your home, based on your zodiac sign.

What Does Designing By Astrology Look Like?

Before diving into the ins and outs of each zodiac sign and how you can create your best home, it’s important to understand the why and how: why are people using astrology to design their homes? And how exactly does this work? “If you’re looking to connect your personal astrology into designing, one of the most important influences to connect to is your moon sign,” shares Crystal B. “In order to feel good about something, you want to connect to your moon’s influence, which has everything to do with how you feel. Getting in tune with your moon helps you feel good alongside connecting to a sense of serenity, peace and calm.” What is a moon sign?  “Your moon sign is the sign that the moon was in when you were born and not necessarily the same as your sun sign. While most people commonly refer to themselves by their sun sign, the place where the moon lives in our astrology is more important when it comes to intuitive design, ” Crystal B. says.  Your moon sign is what Crystal B. calls your ‘emotional fortress.’ “[This sign is the place you need to connect to in order to feel good, balanced, and harmonized,” she says. As such, each sign directly corresponds and connects to a color. And, she continues, one of the easiest ways to bring your moon sign into your space is to accent the color.

The Moon Sign Color Accents

Aries (March 21 – April 20): Red. As a high-energy fire sign, you’re attracted to the excitement of life. You’re bright and oftentimes impulsive, and as such, your home should reflect that spirit through ruby accents (for example: throw pillows, blankets, art, or a painted wall). Taurus (April 21 – May 21): Pastel Pink/Blue. More on the peaceful, methodical vibe, you’re all about creating a home that feels orderly and put together. Because you enjoy the stability, lighter and more pastel tones help to keep you in the ‘zen’ state. Gemini (May 22 – June 21): Yellow. As a Gemini, you love to be around others and soak up the attention and energy from people around you. Your home is a natural reflection of your social state, and as such, yellow is the spark to highlight all the best things about you. Cancer (June 22 – July 22): Smokey Grey/Green. Of all the zodiac signs, you’re loyal, protective, and sometimes moody. A water sign, you vibe with the more brooding, deeper colors to both create a comforting, secure feel in your space. Leo (July 23 – August 22): Golden Yellow, Rose Gold. As a charismatic Leo, you’re proud, loyal to a fault, and bold. Naturally, bringing in louder tones highlight your best characteristics. Plus, the golden accents create the luxurious feel you crave.    Virgo (August 23 – September 22): Navy Blue or Browns. As a Virgo, you’re calm, cool, and collected. You love when your space feels relaxing and strive to create a spot that’s down-to-earth. Thus, the deep blues and browns—earth tones—make the most sense for a home that screams ‘you.’ Libra (September 23 – October 22): Pale Blue. For you, the most important feeling is harmony. That means your space should move between rooms freely, creating a balance that’s conducive to joy and rest. The light blue color makes sense to counterbalance the natural (and somewhat rigid) contemporary design trends.     Scorpio (October 23 – November 21): Dark Red, Maroon & Black. As a Scorpio, you arguably feel emotion more deeply than any of the other signs. Because of this, the striking and deep colors—maroons, reds, and blacks—create a space that’s powerful and dominating to match your deep-thinking, deep-feeling personality. Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21): Purple. You are a sign that’s driven to discover and passionate about trying new things. As such, your home design is often eclectic—a mix of things that you love and a representation of where you’ve been. The purple accent is spunky and helps to continue this funky style.        Capricorn (December 22 – January 20): Dark Green. Often characterized by your drive and desire to be successful, your home embodies your passionate spirit. Green—both a color representative of peace and financial gain—speaks to your progress and desire to live life with purpose. Aquarius (January 21 – February 19): Electric Blue. A water sign by nature, everything about you is abundant with love and positive energy. Because you prioritize connection, electric blue is a perfect color to tie in different spaces of your home and bring together an upbeat, connected vibe. Pisces (February 20 – March 20): Sea Green. As an emotional daydreamer, you’re all about creating a balance between your desire for inner peace and juxtaposing your desire for connecting with others. Sea green is the perfect accent for you because it speaks to the serenity of alone time while also highlighting the energy of shared spaces.

Why Design With Your Moon Sign?

If you’re looking for an intuitive way to design your home, astrology points to the innermost parts of you—your zodiac sign and subsequent moon signs—and how they represent your personality, desires, and core connection points. But why design by the moon sign?   “Your moon sign stays the same all throughout your life. However, we are always changing,” Crystal B. says. “In my book, Feed Your Moon, I explain how we’re always going through different phases and cycles—or what I refer to as ‘skins.’ This relates back to your progressed moon, which isalways progressing through each sign of the zodiac.  “Your progressed moon stays in each sign for 2.3 years on average and allows you to connect with each sign of the zodiac over the course of 27 years,” she continues. “Knowing your progressed moon sign is another way of tuning into your intuitive forces of what’s going to make you feel inspired and good when it comes to design.”
