Sectionals are a big deal in my household as we are a family that likes to put our feet up. With five kids from age 8 to 16, we also have a lot of bodies to accommodate.  It is nice to recline on a sectional, but I also love that the right angle seating design promotes conversation, since people can more comfortably face each other while sitting on the sofa. We already have one sofa and two armchairs in our living room, but I wanted to get another sofa so that we could all have space to stretch out. Other sectional musts include comfort, simple assembly, reasonable price, easy maintenance, and good looks. Read on to find out if the Mercury Row Morpheus Reversible Sectional Ottoman fits the bill.

Comfort: Top notch

I’ve had this sofa for several weeks now and it’s become my new favorite place to sit. My dog and the rest of my family can also often be found lounging on this comfy, nice-looking sofa. The cushions, which are filled with foam and synthetic fiber, are firm while also being soft enough to provide comfortable seating. There is just enough give to the cushions, while also retaining their shape and support. The back support is good, with and without the two provided pillows. In my case, I selected the pillows that come in a whimsical, beachy design.  I love that the back cushions are attached to the solid wood frame so they stay in place.  One drawback, in terms of comfort and convenience, is that the long seat pillow (the one that fits over the seat and ottoman) doesn’t stay securely attached to the back of the sofa. It can be challenging to push it back all the way and keep it there. This creates a gap that continues to widen as the cushion slips forward. It ultimately lessens the back support there. To fix the slippage, I force the cushion in place before I sit down and put a pillow behind me. As I prefer to sit on the ottoman side of the sofa to have my legs up, it is an annoyance. The other two seat cushions fit snugly in place and do not move around at all.

Fabric: Linen-like

This sofa comes in 15 fun fabric (microfiber or microsuede) colors. In addition to the adorable sunshine yellow (Bennett Butter) I ordered, there is charcoal, periwinkle, navy, seafoam, burgundy, onyx, walnut, dark gray, wheat, purple, mist, gray, coral red, and black.  I love the range of color options, which can transform the look of this sofa between staid and traditional to more modern and playful. The feel is sturdy and soft with a hint of texture. The yellow tone gives the room a carefree pop of color, while the linen-like texture gives it a dressed up, sophisticated edge.

Design: Simple, modern

The Mercury Row Morpheus Reversible Sectional Ottoman is designed as an L-shape with an ottoman that can go at either end of the sofa underneath an extended cushion. This modern sofa has a simple look that fits in well with most décor styles. This sofa accommodates three people, across the three seat cushions (although we can easily accommodate four or five kids at once), with one extending the length of the ottoman. The armrests are squarish, flat, wide, and a bit lower than the typical sofa armrest, which makes them perfect for either resting your arm or setting a computer on it as a makeshift workspace. This spot, with my computer resting on the armrest, is where I am writing this review; it has become my go-to work spot when working from home.  In addition to the seat cushion on the ottoman side slipping, the ottoman itself is also not attached and sometimes it slides out slightly as well. I need to look into a way to secure the ottoman and its cushion to the rest of the sofa so that everything stays in place even when moving around on the sofa.

Assembly: Absurdly easy

This sectional arrives at your door almost completely assembled and requires no tools and no instructions to put together. This sectional comes in just five pieces: the main sofa, the ottoman, and the three seat cushions (two small, one long). The only thing you need to do is to screw on the eight wooden feet: four on the sofa and four on the ottoman. Slide the ottoman to the spot where you want it and put the seat cushions on. It’s that easy. It took more time to take the plastic wrap off the package than it did to put it together.

Ease of Cleaning: Like new

I was a little worried about ordering this Mercury Row sectional in a yellow hue as I was concerned about possible stains showing up more on such a bright, light, fun color. However, I’ve found, despite lots of sticky, snack-wielding kids crawling all over it and a puppy who has taken up residence on the sofa’s ottoman end, this sectional still looks brand new.  Dirt, crumbs, and other debris wipe off easily and wetness resists soaking in, so the few spills we’ve had (luckily, only water and milk) have cleaned up beautifully. My puppy also climbed up with muddy feet but after letting the spot dry and then spot cleaning with a dry and then slightly damp rag, the dirt easily came without leaving a mark.

Price: Reasonable

Mercury Row’s Morpheus Reversible Sectional Ottoman list price ranges between $930 to $630, so shop around for the best deal. Similar sectionals can cost from $350 up to $2,500 or more. This product comes in at a very reasonable cost. This sectional normally ships within 2 weeks, however, my order took more than 2 months due to manufacturing issues that I am told now have been sorted out.

Mercury Row Morpheus Reversible Sectional Ottoman vs. Andover Mills Torin Reversible Sectional

These sectionals both come in around the same price (with the Mercury Row model around $630 and the Andover Mills product around $689). They each have a similar three-seat-plus-the-ottoman-under-a-long cushion shape. The Torin Reversible Sectional has a rounder design on the shape of the sofa, particularly the curved arms. It also has four, puffy seat-back cushions and is available in six colors. I prefer the more angular look of the Morpheus sofa, as well as the variety of colors and fabric options and the slightly lower price point. Mercury Row Morpheus Reversible Sectional Ottoman is definitely a worthy buy. I love this sofa as it really delivers on comfort, price, functionality, and style. It has nice, classic lines, soft but firm cushions, and most importantly is very comfortable. Plus, it’s unbelievably easy to assemble—5 minutes tops!
