Since 1911, The Company Store has been committed to quality craftsmanship in its bedding. We put the company’s Legacy 6 oz. Solid Flannel Bedding to the test to determine how soft, warm, and breathable they really are. Not only did we sleep on these flannel sheets for a full week of chilly nights, but we also sent them through the washer and dryer several times to see just how well they held up. Here’s what we found.

Material and Texture: Soft and plush

These sheets are made from 100 percent cotton in Portugal. During the manufacturing process, master weavers brush the fabric on both sides, giving them a plush finish. The sheets just feel high quality. Out of the package, we found them velvety soft to the touch. Plus, with every wash, our set seemed to get even softer, unlike cheaper sheets which tend to get rougher and thinner over time.

Weight: Heavy and high-quality

This collection also contains The Company Store’s heaviest flannel, weighing in at 6 ounces. The base weight for long-lasting, warm flannel sheets starts at 5 ounces, or 170 GSM (grams per square meter), so these sheets are quite thick. They’re also incredibly warm. As soon as we slipped into bed, we could feel the sheets starting to warm us up. Yet they managed to regulate temperature, too. At no point during the night did we get too hot. We found the sheets super breathable and comfortable—perfect for cold nights.

Washing: Still soft, no pilling

As recommended by the manufacturer, we washed these sheets before use on a cold, gentle cycle with like colors and then tumble-dried on low to medium heat. After four washes, we still haven’t seen any pilling—a rarity with flannel sheets. Plus, the sheets still feel just as soft as the first night.

Color: Gorgeous colors, but no patterns

The Legacy 6 oz. Solid Flannel Bedding offers eight gorgeous muted colors: Alabaster, Cafe, Cloud Blue, Cream, Mocha, Platinum, Thyme, and White. The selection is limited to plain colors—no patterns. That’s the case for all of the store’s flannel sheets. We were somewhat disappointed in the lack of variety; The Company Store has beautiful, unique pattern offerings for some of its other products that we would love to see in the flannel sheets.

Helpful Features: Extra deep fit and OEKO-TEX-certified

The Company Store’s Legacy 6 oz. Solid Flannel Bedding comes with a few bonus features that make it worthy of its higher price tag. The fitted sheet is extra deep, fitting mattresses up to 20 inches thick. The flat sheet and pillowcases also come with double-stitch detailing, which gives the set a sleeker look. Plus, these sheets are OEKO-TEX-certified, meaning they’re free of harmful chemicals and synthetics.

Price: Benefits outweigh the higher price

These sheets are certainly not the most expensive on the market, but they are a bit on the pricey side. The pieces are sold separately, but a twin-size flat sheet, fitted sheet, and two pillowcases retail for a combined total of around $148. However, the benefits make it all worthwhile. The collection gives you a luxury bedding experience that delivers on all levels—style, comfort, warmth, breathability, and durability—all for a moderate price.

Competition: Different Cotton Quality

The main difference between the two is price. A set of The Company Store’s flannel sheets costs double the price of the Pinzon set. However, we can vouch for the luxurious experience you get with the former. While Pinzon’s sheets are nearly just as velvety smooth, we noticed an obvious difference in quality when we touched them and slept in them. We also felt that our temperature was better regulated in the Legacy flannel sheets, providing us with a better night’s sleep than with the Pinzon set. Legacy 6 oz. Velvet Flannel Collection vs. Mellanni Flannel Cotton Sheet Set: Mellanni carries a flannel sheet set as well, but it starts around $40. Similar to The Company Store’s set, the Mellanni flannel cotton set (which we also reviewed) delivers on warmth and breathability. Mellanni’s website, however, doesn’t specify where the bedding is manufactured, nor what kind of cotton is used. Mellanni’s flannel sheet set costs significantly less than The Company Store’s, but it comes at a cost of lower-quality material. If you’re just looking for function, then Mellanni will do the job for a very good price. But with the Company Store’s set, the price you pay is going towards a long-term investment that is unmistakably high-quality. Interested in reading more reviews?
