For 11 months out of the year, holiday decorations sit in storage collecting dust. In that time, if not stored properly, real damage can occur to some of your priceless holiday decorations. One holiday accessory you especially want to protect is your artificial Christmas tree, as it’s intended to be used over and over again. We tried out one of the more lavish storage options, TreeKeeper’s GreensKeeper Extra Large Christmas Tree Storage Bag. We tested its overall design, capacity, extra features, price, and size.
Setup: Simple and quick
Some setup is required before using the TreeKeeper Extra Large Christmas Tree Storage Bag. The stabilizing slide bars that comprise the frame must first be locked into place. Once all of the bars located on the horizontal and vertical frames have been locked, the two roller wheels must be attached. The included instructions provide the details for attaching the wheels. It only took us about 10 minutes to set up the bag.
Design: Well-thought-out design and polished look, but dull colors
This storage bag is well-designed. It comes equipped with five handles on the front and back and one handle on each. There are two heavy-duty ball-bearing wheels on one end for easy roll away. The roller wheels were of great help when moving this bag into storage, especially considering that this bag is made for extra-large trees. The top of the bag has a U-shaped zipper which was convenient for opening and closing. Inside the bag, there is a net above the main storage cabin that can be zipped on and off. In the main storage area, there are inner compression straps to tightly hold the artificial tree pieces firmly in place. The bag is made entirely of durable, wipe-clean polyester fabric. The bag also has a self-standing steel frame, which adds extra protection. The overall look of this bag is polished and noticeably high-quality. The bag is mainly dark green with black and army green accents on the exterior. The interior is mainly black with accents of army green. While the bag does look very nice, we found that the dull colors reminded us of a camping color palette—not particularly festive.
Capacity: Can hold trees up to 15 feet or multiple small trees
This bag measures 60 x 25 x 31 inches when fully assembled and weighs about 30 pounds. (It’s worth noting that the brand also offers smaller sizes, in wheeled and un-wheeled versions, at a lower price.) The extra-large bag can hold artificial Christmas trees that are up to 15 feet high or even multiple smaller trees. We used it to store multiple artificial trees. It easily fit both of our 7.5-foot trees inside. As mentioned above, there is also a section, separated by a net, above the main storage area that allows users to place ornaments or more delicate holiday decorations away from the items stored in the area below. However, we would advise not standing the storage bag up vertically if using the netting area because there is nothing in this compartment to secure these items and keep them from falling.
Performance: Protects contents inside, two separate compartments
The TreeKeeper Extra Large Christmas Tree Storage Bag does an excellent job of protecting the contents placed inside of this bag. Because of the upright frame, it’s unlikely that anything will damage what’s inside. The compression straps inside also were useful for keeping our tree pieces firmly in place. When we flipped the bag to its standing upright position for our storage space, our tree pieces didn’t fall to the bottom of the bag but stayed securely in place. One downside of this storage bag is that it does take up a great deal of space. Before purchasing this bag, we’d advise customers to ensure they have the room in their storage space for it to stand vertically or horizontally. We had a hard time finding a spot for it in our home and needed to move a lot of things around to finally get it to fit in our closet.
Price: Expensive, but worth it for large trees
The TreeKeeper Extra Large Christmas Tree Storage Bag is not cheap. It retails for around $200. However, considering the protection it provides and the easy transport, this bag is well worth the investment. Plus, this bag also comes with a limited five-year warranty, adding to its overall value. See the manufacturer’s site for more details.
TreeKeeper Extra Large Christmas Tree Storage Bag vs. Best Choice Products Rolling Duffle Christmas Tree Storage Bag
A cheaper alternative to the TreeKeeper bag is the Best Choice Products Rolling Duffle Christmas Tree Storage Bag we also reviewed, which retails for around $45 to $65. It’s made of durable polyester, fits trees up to 9 feet tall, and comes equipped with three roller wheels to make it easily transportable. This Best Choice Products bag also has interior straps to hold the contents inside in place and an extra storage compartment on the front. However, this bag does not provide the same structural support as the TreeKeeper case, as it does not have a steel frame. Therefore, this bag can only be stored horizontally. It also doesn’t keep the contents inside as secure because the interior straps don’t function properly. However, the TreeKeeper bag is significantly more expensive, so it may be worth it in exchange for the extra protection it provides with its upright frame and working adjustable straps. The GreensKeeper Christmas Tree Storage Bag bag may be on the more expensive side, but in the end, it’s worth every penny for the protection this bag provides. Artificial trees, especially large artificial trees, are a substantial investment, and they require proper storage, after all.
