When it comes to getting quality sleep, a good mattress can make an immense difference. That being said, an easier and more budget-friendly solution is to get a mattress topper. Available in a variety of materials, thicknesses, and densities, there are virtually endless mattress toppers to choose from.  So, does the ViscoSoft Select High Density Mattress Topper stand out among the rest? I unwrapped, unrolled, and slept on one myself to get an accurate idea of the comfort, support, and overall design. Keep reading for all the details.

Design: Luxurious with all the right features

The ViscoSoft Select High Density Mattress Topper is very well made. In addition to being an extremely plush product, it has a smart, effective design. The mattress topper comes with a removable, washable cover with dual zippers. Other features include adjustable elastic straps on each corner that hook underneath the mattress, ensuring it stays in place. Since the mattress topper is three inches thick, the fitted sheet I had on my bed didn’t completely cover it. I ended up getting an extra-deep fitted sheet to accommodate the additional height. An extra-deep mattress pad would also be needed to fit over the mattress topper. However, since both the topper and my mattress have their own covers, I decided I didn’t need one. The king-size High Density Mattress Topper weighs 38.7 pounds, so it’s an exceptionally heavy product. Unpacking it and getting it set up is a somewhat strenuous task. After removing the mattress topper from its compression packaging, the instructions say to wait between 24 and 48 hours before using it. This is how long it’s supposed to take to expand to its full shape. It’s a super heavy and massive product, and when it’s not on the bed, it takes up quite a bit of space. Waiting for it to take shape was inconvenient. I waited for about 24 hours, which seemed to be plenty of time. However, I don’t really consider the thickness and weight as drawbacks. These traits are necessary components of a luxurious mattress topper.

Material: A perfect memory foam

The insert of the ViscoSoft Select High Density Mattress Topper is gel-infused memory foam, which is made from polyurethane. As the manufacturer explains, the blue foam has special engineering that optimizes ventilation to prevent heat from trapping within the material. After sleeping on it for a few nights, I can confirm that the mattress topper is excellent at regulating temperature. I don’t have a problem with overheating while I sleep, but it does remain comfortably cool through the night. The mattress topper comes with an anti-slip, machine-washable cover made from bamboo-rayon. On the top side, the cover is white with small blue dots and a smooth, knitted texture. Underneath, it’s a bright blue breathable mesh that’s also smooth to the touch.

Thickness/Support: Dense yet incredibly soft

The manufacturer indicates that the mattress topper has medium firmness. To me, it feels a little on the soft side. With that said, I like extra-soft mattresses, so I was pleased with the firmness. Even though it’s extremely soft and plush, the foam is dense. (The density level is 3.5 pounds per cubic foot.) So, it still offers plenty of support. Like a lot of memory foam mattresses, this topper minimizes motion transfer. My husband and I were able to get in and out of bed without disturbing one another. When lying in bed, I don’t sink into the mattress topper. Instead, my body is contoured by the supportive memory foam. The ViscoSoft Select High Density Mattress Topper offers pretty much the perfect level of softness and support. Overall, I’ve slept more soundly on it, waking up less frequently at night. Measuring three inches in thickness, it added some height to my bed, changing the appearance slightly. It doesn’t look bad, though, especially with an extra-deep fitted sheet.

Comfort: Extra plush and comfy

According to the manufacturer, the ViscoSoft Select High Density Mattress Topper is designed to provide optimal comfort for all sleeping positions. I tend to sleep in a variety of positions, including my back, side, and stomach. The mattress topper is definitely comfortable for the many ways I snooze. Since putting it on my bed, I’ve had much more restful sleep and have genuinely looked forward to getting into bed at night. My existing mattress is made from relatively firm memory foam. While it’s comfortable enough on its own, I prefer a softer bed. Getting a new mattress isn’t always the most convenient or affordable option. Luckily, the Select High Density Mattress Topper from ViscoSoft offers just the right amount of plushness to the top. It basically feels like sleeping on a new mattress.

Washing: Convenient and straightforward

Cleaning instructions call for washing the cover in a cold cycle and tumble-drying it on low. Washing and drying the cover doesn’t have any impact on its shape or the texture of the material. Per the instructions, the cover can also be spot-cleaned with a small amount of soapy water and then air-dried. A lot of mattress toppers don’t come with covers, so being able to wash this one is a plus. Like other toppers, the foam portion of the mattress topper is not machine washable. If I needed to clean a small area on the foam portion of the mattress topper, it is recommended to spot clean. Instructions say to use an absorbent towel to remove as much liquid as possible. Stains can be cleaned by dabbing a little soapy water on the spot to remove it.

Price: Spendy but worth it

Ranging between $130 to $215, the ViscoSoft Select High Density Mattress Topper is not a cheap product. However, it delivers on quality and comfort. Not only that, but it seems like it’ll hold up for several years, making it well worth the price.

Competition: Mattress toppers aplenty

Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR ProForm Supreme 3-Inch Mattress Topper: Ranging from $300 to $450, the TEMPUR ProForm Supreme 3-Inch Mattress Topper is at the higher end of the spectrum in terms of price. It’s designed to adapt to the body’s temperature, weight, and shape for personalized support. Like the ViscoSoft Select High Density Mattress Topper, it comes with a machine-washable cover. RUUF Memory Foam Mattress Topper High Density Mattress Pad: Priced between $100 to $200, the 4-inch Memory Foam Mattress Topper High Density Mattress Pad from RUUF is a slightly thicker option. It doesn’t come with a cover, but the manufacturer recommends buying a waterproof mattress protector along with the product. POLAR SLEEP 3 Inch Gel Swirl Memory Foam Mattress Topper: Selling for $70 to $120, the 3 Inch Gel Swirl Memory Foam Mattress Topper has a ventilated design and gel beads that prevent overheating. It boasts a chemical-free memory foam that supports spinal alignment.

I wouldn’t change anything about the ViscoSoft Select High Density Mattress Topper. I don’t expect to replace it (or my mattress) for several years. Ultimately, the higher price tag and need to buy extra-deep fitted sheets are worth it for the truly unparalleled comfort provided by this product.
